The sailing weeks
will run from Monday through Friday, starting at 9:30 AM and ending at
4:00 PM. These sailing weeks are group lessons which will be held at the
Turkey Neck Yacht Club. The sailing programs are open to everyone. The
school does not discriminate. Because we know that families are limited to
certain dates, we no longer have separate weeks for beginners and more
advanced juniors, but will divide the children into two groups by ability
and experience each week. Since most schools start before Labor Day the
week of August 22 is tentative pending sufficient enrollment.
The Sailing
School is sponsoring a Flying Scot sailing and racing week of clinics June
27 through July 1. This is a Monday to Friday operation with several world
class instructors. There will be a modest charge. This is an adult
program, although experienced college and high school age sailors will be
welcome. Our spring mailing will have all the particulars. Plan your
vacation now so that you can attend.
You will receive
detailed information in late March 2005 along with the application form.
Tuition for the regularly scheduled classes will be $210 per student for
the week. The same as last year. Beginning and intermediate juniors will
sail eight foot Optimist Prams or Lasers with 4.7 short rig. More advanced
children will sail Lasers with the short or full rig depending on their
weight and ability. The junior program accepts children as young as 7 if
they are good swimmers, and up to about 16. Adult instruction for
beginners or intermediate will normally be in Flying Scot sailboats. All
of the instructors including Ed Peters, the Schuberts, the Dodds, and Lucy
Kammer who were with us last year will be returning.
The Intermediate
adult program is for those with some sailing ability and who want to gain
confidence. We will include introductory racing and spinnaker handling.
This year we will
again be offering private lessons Monday through Friday. The cost will be
$175 for one to three participants for a full day of sailing in a Flying
Scot with an instructor. Half day lessons will be $115, the same rate as
last year.
Wednesday evening
races will be provided for all interested sailors at 5 PM during July and
August. These will be sponsored by the Deep Creek Yacht Racing
Association, and run by Sailing School personnel. There will be Friday
night Laser races for adults and juniors, and Sunday morning Optimist and
Laser races for juniors.
We hope to see
you and your family this summer. If you have any questions about our
