DCYC, Inc. is administered by the Board of Directors. The Board is comprised
of seven Directors, elected to two year terms by the corporate membership
at the Annual Stockholder's Meeting in December. The Board elects the club officers,
such as Commodore, Treasurer, Secretary, etc. Club work and social activities
are coordinated by various committees, such as the House, Dock, Grounds,
and Social Committees. Members are appointed to these committees according
to each individual's inclination and talents.
MEMBERSHIPS
Deep Creek Yacht Club has five membership categories:
Trial, Corporate, Junior, Associate, and Reciprocal. A one year Trial membership
must precede application for Corporate or Junior membership.
Trial Membership affords both the Club and the Trial member time
to assess one another, while allowing the Trial member full use of the
Club. Upon completion of the one year Trial membership, an application
for either Corporate or Junior membership must be submitted to the Board
of Directors for approval. A Trial member's financial responsibility includes
prompt payment of dues, dorm fees, and other fees incurred.
Corporate Membership entitles the member to full use of the Club's
facilities and to vote at the Annual Stockholders Meeting. Upon approval of the
Corporate membership application, a nonrefundable initiation fee must be paid.
Also a minimum of five shares of stock must be purchased. Only
Corporate members may own stock. Stock is sold by and repurchased by the
Club as net asset value. A Corporate member's financial responsibility
include prompt payment of dues, assessments, room or dorm fees, and any
the fees incurred. All Corporate members are asked to subscribe to stock
offerings, with preferential consideration given to members holding the
fewest shares.
Junior Membership provides the same privileges and obligations as
a Corporate membership except the Junior member has no voting rights. Members
between the ages of 21 and 35 who have completed their one year Trial membership
may apply for Junior membership. A Junior member's financial responsibility
includes the prompt payment of dues, dorm fees, and any other fees incurred.
Junior members defer the payment of the initiation fee and purchase of
stock until they become a corporate member.
Associate Membership is essentially a social membership. Associate
members typically have a residence on the lake and are invited to participate
in all of the Club's social activities. Dues are nominal.
Reciprocal Membership is offered to members of the Deep Creek Lake
Sailing
Association (DCLSA) at Turkeyneck. A Reciprocal member has the same privileges
as an Associate member. Dues are nominal.
FACILITIES
The Club is generally open from the third week of April until
the third week of September. During this time Corporate, Junior, and Trial
members may make full use of the Club. The Club is winterized during the
off season, with the water and electric being turned off.
Sleeping Accommodations are available in three forms: fifteen individually
leased staterooms, men's and women's dormitories, and a nursery. Staterooms
are leased to Corporate members only. These rooms are leased for 99 years.
Occasionally a lease is surrendered and repurchased by the Corporation.
Available rooms are leased to qualified members, generally on the basis
of seniority. The men's and women's dormitories and the nursery are available
to all Corporate, Junior, and Trial members as well as their guests. Each
dormitory sleeps eight persons and is equipped with a complete bathroom,
including shower. There is a nominal fee per person for each night in the
dorm. Children under six are not permitted in the dorm, however, these
children may stay in the nursery along with an adult.
The Commons Areas of the club, i.e.. ward room, kitchen, ballroom,
and grounds are open to Corporate, Junior, or Trial members. Associate
and Reciprocal members may utilize these areas during social gatherings.
Use of the Dock and Mooring facilities are permitted on a "stop
and go" basis to all membership types, but only Corporate, Junior,
or Trial members may permanently dock or moor boats.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The club usually has a full social calendar for the summer.
Activities include a pig roast, corn roast, seafood party and pitch-in
dinners, as well as cocktail parties. The season culminates with the annual
Commodore's Reception, honoring the commodores of both yacht clubs, and
celebrating the end of the racing season.
SAILBOAT RACING
Sailboat racing on Deep Creek Lake is conducted under the auspices
of the Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association (DCYRA).
The DCYRA includes members from both the Deep Creek Yacht Club and the
Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association (DCLSA) and non-club affiliated sailors.
Races are held every Saturday and Sunday, Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Special regattas are held during the summer. The 19' Flying Scot, the Laser,
and the Opti Pram are the only sailboat classes presently being raced on
Deep Creek in any numbers.
SAILING SCHOOL
The Deep Creek Sailing School (DCSS)
provides 8 week-long sailing classes each summer season for children and
adults as well as individual instruction.
