| DCYC, Deep Creek Yacht Club,
Inc. was chartered
as a non-profit organization in 1948. Originally located on Turkeyneck
Road at the present site of the Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association (DCLSA),
the club moved in 1965 to its new location on
Thousand
Acres. The basic purpose of DCYC is to provide a weekend home for its
Corporate members who live away from the lake and want to participate in
the sailboat racing program sponsored by the
Deep
Creek Yacht Racing Association. Deep Creek Yacht Club is the home
club of Harry Carpenter, the 1988 Flying Scot North American Champion and
owner of Flying Scot, Inc. Harry
was awarded the 1996
US Sailing
"Sportsman of the Year Award", signifying the top sportsman in
sailing that year in the entire United States.

The clubhouse was designed and constructed by the original Corporate
members. Some outside work was contracted, but most of the structure was
built by the members. This philosophy continues today with the Corporate
members performing most of the Club's maintenance, such as putting in and
removing docks from the lake, opening and closing (winterizing) the club,
and the general upkeep of the physical plant and grounds. Outside help
is contracted when the work exceeds the capabilities of the members. |
