We welcome these New Members in 2006

Marion and Bill Boehmer:
Marion grew up in Hamilton, Ontario and Bill in Pittsburgh. They met in 1949 and were married in Canada in 1950. Bill was a heating and air conditioning contractor until he retired and Marion is a homemaker and is still waiting to retire. They lived in Pittsburgh until they decided to make Deep Creek their permanent home. They are the parents of four children, have seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bill's interests are flying sailplanes, fishing, playing croquet. Marion enjoys croquet, gardening, and baking bread. They both bike regularly with the Chain Gang. They spend winters in Florida where they are part of DCLSA south.

Barbara Harrison and Dan Pierce:
Barb and Dan fell in love with Deep Creek Lake on an anniversary trip in 2002.  After some agonizing, they finally got organized to buy a lot in Southwoods and build a chalet. Dan is a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the electron physics lab, and Barb works as a clinical trial coordinator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dan sailed with his family as a teenager on a 35 foot yawl in Southern California, but Barb had never sailed.   So, they signed up for a lesson with Dave Mahan in September 2004 and they both loved the Flying Scot.  Next spring they found FS 3612 languishing in the snow in the parking lot at FS Inc., and Barb bought the boat for Dan.  After taking a week of sailing school last summer Dan decided he wanted to get involved in racing (Barb is still hesitant about this!). Other than sailing, they love kayaking, hiking, jogging, downhill and cross-country skiing, and "mountain life."   Barb is also an avid gardener (in Bethesda) and a novice quilter.

John & Liz Guy
Meet new members John and Liz Guy: John and Liz have lived in Garrett County since 2001.  On June 1st of this year they relocated from Lake Shore Drive to Hickory Ridge where they are now neighbors to the Warthers and the Warnicks. Both John & Liz have worked in information technology throughout their careers. John retired from Hewlett-Packard after 25 years of service and now does consulting work. Liz has been at HP for over 20 years and continues to work there. The Guys have two children--David, age 19, who just completed his sophomore year at Georgetown University, and Joanna, 15, who will be a sophomore at Southern High School. As members of the club, the entire family looks forward to new friends, new experiences and learning to sail.
